another breakdown

Brian is working late, so I've just been doing things around the house, enjoying my evening. Earlier I had decided to try Sara's chocolate chip cookie recipe, so tonight I went to the store and got the supplies.

A little bit ago, I started mixing up the ingredients. It has been forever since I baked anything, so I was just listening to an audio book and working on the cookies. I was just about to add the chocolate chips (and that's always the last thing you add) when I decided to get out the cookie sheets. I opened up the cabinet and started to take out my Pampered Chef stones when I saw it.

A roach. Correction, ANOTHER roach.

OK, this means three things:
1. I won't be able to bake the cookies until Brian comes home and kills it
2. I'll have to thoroughly wash everything in the cabinet (which I just did 2 weeks ago when I took it all out of the moving boxes)
3. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight, despite the Tylenol PM I took a little bit ago

So here's some history: there are WAY too many bugs in Florida. I can't even tell you how many we've found in the house, and we've lived here for exactly two weeks and one day. The exterminator came, laughed at my hysteria, and said it was totally normal--Florida is "bug central." He sprayed the stuff and said it would get worse before it got better, because they would eat the poison and then wander out, trying to get away from it. Everyone I've talked to says the same thing.

THIS DOES NOT HELP MY SITUATION!!!!

We have seen roaches of all shapes and sizes (we've named them according to size: baby, teenaged, and grandpa roaches--the one in the cabinet right now is a grandpa.) We've also seen spiders, silverfish, earwigs, and a few ants. I've been threatening to go out of town until it gets better. If it ever does.

I've already found one grandpa roach crawling around in my pots and pans, so I had to re-wash everything in THAT cabinet. I also found one in the junk drawer. Brian said he found another one in there and didn't tell me about it. The other night, one started crawling out from under the washer and I screamed and scared it back under there. Brian had to come move the washer and kill it. Right after that, I was leaving the kitchen when I saw a gargantuan spider running around in the dining room.

It was then that I had the breakdown. I just could not handle it anymore! Bugs are NOT supposed to live inside my house! They are UNINVITED! This house is not big enough for me AND them!!!! I was literally in tears, threatening to move. I can't take it! WHY can't they just go away??!!

The whole time I've been typing this, I've been feeling bugs crawling all over me. I keep scratching. I can't stand it anymore. Good thing we're going out of town for Labor Day weekend. I may have to be hospitalized before then if this keeps up.

You know how lots of people in NY had a snow removal service to plow their driveway when it snowed? Well, in FL, people have exterminators. :) They are valuable -- a good exterminator is like a good babysitter or good accountant. Piss off your friends and family, but don't piss off your exterminator, if you know what I mean!

Hi Kerri Beth! I logged on to show Nellie the baby and started reading your "life"! I COMPLETELY understand the roach hysteria! You might remember this as I talked about it in the youth group when you were here and I found a roach in our bags. My mom assured me I had brought it in with the groceries that evening but I MOVED OUT! Yep, I moved out till the house was completely exterminated. Poor Roger, I still don't know why he has stayed with me all these years!
Anyway, we are enjoying hearing about the Taylor families and hope to see you in the near future. I understand Brad is speaking at PLaza soon so I am going to try to go there to hear him.
